2 Short Texts Describing The Architectural Concepts

The architects that my ARCH1101 class were given as our clients for Experiment 2 were Antoni Gaudi and Santiago Calatrava.

The concept I chose to explore for this experiment for Antoni Gaudi was his use of proportion as he uses very gothic proportions in his designs and in his architecture. I will incorporate this concept into my design by making a part of the light rail stop that encompasses many elongated structures.

The second concept I chose to explore is for Santiago Calatrava and it is to do with his use of stone in his design and architecture. In saying this, most of his work has a more ‘solid’ and ‘heavy’ look to it because of the material he chooses to use. Thus, I will be designing a part of my light rail stop to incorporate a more ‘heavy’ and  ‘solid’ look, which will result in a thicker structure with wider pieces. I will also be using stone throughout my whole light rail stop.

I am also following the theme of 'Technology' for this light rail stop. Thus, in my design I am hoping to incorporate some display screens on the structure to display information about the train timetable and a map of the light rail system and the different stops. I also have a reclining roof/cover on the top half of my structure to provide shade on a sunny day and also cover when it rains.
